There are many tools available and the cost is very low. And, believe it or not, life scientists use social media heavily. The ACP-LS is hosting a webinar on the use of social media in the life sciences on February 18 at 10AM PST. Anyone interested, please visit http://www.acp-ls.org for details.

Comment on Crowdfunding and the Other Life Sciences Market by Andrew Johnson http://blog.upstartlifesci.com/crowdfunding-and-the-other-life-sciences-market/#comment-1898 Tue, 13 Aug 2013 13:53:10 +0000 http://blog.upstartlifesci.com/?p=327#comment-1898 The face of crowdfudning is changing almost every day. A Google Search for ‘crowdfunding websites’ returns almost 11 Million hits headed by all the big financial publications and firms with their own recommendations. It is important to find the right fit between the company looking to raise capital and the investor (including crowdfunding organizations). Look for a crowdfunder that has experience with companies like yours and where your respective missions are a good fit.

Any ideas on a good crowdfunding site would be most welcome.

Comment on A Socio-Economic Theory of Emerging Economies and Technology Development by Brigitte Kobi http://blog.upstartlifesci.com/a-socio-economic-theory-of-emerging-economies-and-technology-development/#comment-1537 Wed, 24 Jul 2013 13:19:32 +0000 http://blog.upstartlifesci.com/?p=604#comment-1537 If I understand you correctly Globalisation and Modernization have to go together if any of them should be a success. Modernization is much more than just new technologies and as people need the education to make use of it which is a social aspect of modernization. Globalisation – so it seems to me – has a rather bad reputation. Living in a country which is known for its stability and wealth that therefore has a high percentage of foreigners prejudice and xenophobia seems to grow. According to the statistics people in areas with very few foreigners are more xenophobic than the locals of regions with a lot of foreigners. Obviously, we fear what we don’t know and we definitely no not know about the result of Globalisation and Modernisation. And as far as I can see predictions are almost always wrong.

I believe in Science – no matter which discipline – global thinking is important to get a panorama view and new results. Therefore it is safe to say that science always was an international business. Probably we weren’t able to build towers without the Babylonians 😉

Comment on The Life Science Innovators Dilemma: Converting Skeptics to Evangelists by Dad http://blog.upstartlifesci.com/the-life-science-innovators-dilemma-converting-skeptics-to-evangelists/#comment-911 Tue, 28 May 2013 12:46:05 +0000 http://blog.upstartlifesci.com/?p=365#comment-911 “Disruptive Technology”

Hi Andy,

Thanks for the email.

Disruptive Technology sounds a little negative. I do think we need it to change to better inventions.

The farmer’s new tractor replaced the horse team. Did this greatly reduce the value of horses? Yes, that was the bad news. The good news was that a farmer could now do 10 times what he could do with horses.

The new conflict was between John Deere (Green), and International Harvester (Red). Dad had a John Deere. They had a musical sound from the “TWO” cylinder engine. They gave Dad an account book each year. Dad kept his records in it. Have I shown those “ancient” books to you?

I know managers with the same attitude but a missing talent for body guarding.

However, even in the western world it is still considered so important if a job has been done by a man or by a woman. A mistake which is made by both genders equally. In the end the only think that counts is that the job has been done well.

Men and women are – luckily – different. It is time to understand that people do not have to be the same to be entitled for the same rights. And in quite some countries the difference is an outrage.
